The last and final day of the 2026 Magofffin County Basic Summer Training Camp for the students participating in the America Building Apprenticeship Program sponsored by the Wilderness Education Project. This last day was filled with a lot of hands on activities dealing with crime scene investigations using the ClassVR virtual reality headsets and finished off with a visit from Carla Kersey assisting in learning to use the LANDED platform for the purpose of documenting successes and achievements throughout their high school academic careers.

I do believe that fun was had by all and a special "Thank You" to Mr. Colton Howard on his assist with the VR activity, it wouldn't have been the success it was without his invaluable knowledge and expertise with the technology 😉

Students participating in the 2026 Basic Training Summer Camp worked on creating their 5 year vision boards. After working throughout the morning, the students then were treated to lunch and a tour of Magoffin County's local business Mineral Labs. The Magoffin County High School/Career & Tech Center would like to thank Mr. Brad Lyon ( Kayla-Brad Lyon ) for sponsoring this tour and lunch.

Day 1 of the Magoffin County Basic Training Summer Camp sponsored by the Wilderness Education Project. The students that are participating worked on their Team Building skills by solving spy clues to see who could break into the box first.

The students also took the DISC Personality test and discussed strengths within their personalities and how they will help in different careers that they may be interested in.

Finally, students learned about the importance of their "Digital Footprints", Cyber-Security, and the importance of technology now and in the future especially with AI coming to the forefront.

Want to brag on the 2026 Magoffin County Basic Training Summer Camp students as they attended the "Whole Group" day spent at the Kentucky Aviation Museum in Lexington, Kentucky. The students (and chaperones) had such an awesome experience with some of the coolest exhibits. If you have never visited the museum, you should definitely make the trip.

Thanks to the leaders of the Wilderness Education Project for setting up this day for students participating in the ABA (American Building Apprenticeship) Program. Along with each of the tour guides that worked to make this a remarkable experience for all students but especially those from Magoffin County!

The Magoffin County Career and Technical Center wants to extend a HUGE thank you to Dr. Malyssa Collins for mentoring students in real-world employability skills. Her dynamic personality and extensive knowledge base, along with her in-person interaction with the students is an invaluable experience for every student that participates in her program.

Dr. Collins provides group sessions, but also goes above and beyond to provide one-on-one sessions. Emily Bailey worked with Dr. Collins perfecting her resume as she prepares for graduation and to apply for Certified Nursing Positions after passing her Nationally Recognized Certification Nursing Exam. The students gain such insight and knowledge from their in-person interactions with Dr. Collins that teaches them how to effectively communicate with people in the real-world.

Dr. Makayla Funk was gracious enough to donate her time to work with the Magoffin County Career & Tech Pharmacy Tech students as they prepare to take their nationally recognized Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam on Monday May 18th, 2026. Dr. Funk is an in hospital pharmacist at St. Claire Medical Center in Morehead, Kentucky!
