For members of SLCC's UWHEN chapter: The "Creating an Inclusive Culture: UWHEN Workshop on Understanding Bias & Micro-aggressions" Workshop is happening on Monday, December 5!

TB 225D-A/B, Taylorsville Redwood Campus and Zoom

As more women and other underrepresented groups enter leadership roles in higher education, it is important for us to discuss what an inclusive culture looks and feels like. In this workshop, we will address this by exploring bias and micro-aggressions, how to recognize them in ourselves and in social situations, and how to respond with curiosity and compassion when micro-aggressions occur.

Presented by Dr. Liz Bond Rogers and Anjali Pai,
SLCC Faculty & Staff Professional Development Directors

You’re Invited!
Please join the Staff Association Tuesday, October 12th from 11:30a – 12:20p, to meet with the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Please stay tuned and keep a look out for the Zoom link, which will be provided next week, Tuesday!

As President Huftalin stated, “This is an important component in our continued improvement efforts and a testament to our focused work to increase student achievement and learning.” This is also a great time and space, as Staff, to have our voices heard!!
In preparation for the meeting, it is recommend that we review the sections of the reports that deal with employee related issues. These sections include:
SLCC Evaluation of Institutional Effectiveness Report 2021_SP version.docx
• 1.B.3: inclusive planning process
SLCC Policies Regulations Financial Review 2021_SP version.docx
• 2.A.4: decision-making structures include consideration of staff
• 2.D.2: high ethical standards and equitable treatment college constituents; grievances are addressed in a fair, equitable, timely manner
• 2.F.1: staff are apprised of their conditions of employment
• 2.F.2: staff have professional development opportunities
• 2.F.3: the college employs sufficient and appropriate personnel
• 2.F.4: staff are evaluated regularly and systematically; reviews are fair, equitable, consistent, and include feedback and encouragement

While we’re not entirely sure what will come up in the forum, we might anticipate a few of these questions:
• How are staff involved in governance and decision making?
• How are staff involved in planning?
• What is the staff evaluation process? Is it fair and equitable, and does it focus on improvement and growth?
• Are staff grievances handled in a fair, equitable, and timely manner?
• What are professional development opportunities for staff?
