_ellipsis...literature and art_, the literary magazine published by the college, sponsors two writing contests, one for prose and one for poetry. Both will be judged by writer Carolyn Forche. Prize is $100, publication in ellipsis, and a featured reading at the virtual debut on April 22,2022. You must be a Westminster Student with a Westminster email address to submit. Congratulations to Westminster English alum Katie Panushka for the publication of her poem “April 17, 2018: A Brief History of Gynecological Surgery.” This is why English majors make good doctors!

Katie writes:

“I am so honored to have my poem selected for Spring Issue of Intima: a Journal of Narrative Medicine. It was published today! WOO!

As a future ObGyn, it is imperative for me to acknowledge the brutal and dehumanizing history of this field that I love and admire so much. In order to promote the health, well-being, and self-determination of black people, Indigenous people, and other people of color it is imperative to dismantle the racism that exists in medicine! This starts with acknowledgement and awareness so that we can move towards redemptive and healing actions.”

Westminster's Board with Friends tabletop gaming club is raising money to contribute to the development of Coyote and Crow, a tabletop role-playing game developed by Native American game designers, set in a future in which the Americas were never colonized. The designers are donating copies of the game to libraries and schools on Native American nations. Board with Friends will purchase additional copies to donate to Native American organizations specifically in Utah.
