Congratulations to Westminster English alum Katie Panushka for the publication of her poem “April 17, 2018: A Brief History of Gynecological Surgery.” This is why English majors make good doctors!
Katie writes:
“I am so honored to have my poem selected for Spring Issue of Intima: a Journal of Narrative Medicine. It was published today! WOO!
As a future ObGyn, it is imperative for me to acknowledge the brutal and dehumanizing history of this field that I love and admire so much. In order to promote the health, well-being, and self-determination of black people, Indigenous people, and other people of color it is imperative to dismantle the racism that exists in medicine! This starts with acknowledgement and awareness so that we can move towards redemptive and healing actions.”
