Drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death in children under the age of 4 in the US with approximately 700 deaths a year. There are also another roughly 3,400 children each year that are injured in near drownings, many of them permanently. Swimming can be not only a life skill, but also a life saver. Children are often curious about their surroundings, which can include both shallow

and deep bodies of waters such as swimming pools, Jacuzzis, and lakes. The importance of swimming cannot be understated; the following are just a few of the reasons why children should learn to swim as early as possible. Safety Concerns: Children are naturally inquisitive, and are prone to exploring their surroundings. However, without the ability to swim, the risks of injury or drowning can rise without supervision. You’ll never know whether you or your loved ones are in a situation where swimming is necessary. Therefore, it’s vital that children become accustomed to the water as soon as possible. Health Benefits: Swimming is an excellent form of exercise, and provides benefits to the body in a variety of ways. Not only will it train your cardiovascular system, it will also help build endurance and muscle strength. As a low-impact, full-body exercise, swimming is a great way to stay in shape. Brain Development: Children that have many and varied types of stimulation build and enhance pathways in the brain which aid them not only in better interaction with their physical environments and coordination, but also with pattern recognition in other areas of their lives. This in turn helps them as they get older with Math, Music, Language, Art and Problem Solving. Recreation: When it comes to hot summers, often the first thing that comes to mind is the activity of swimming. As the temperature grows, beaches and swimming pools become a popular destination to beat the sun. In addition, swimming also opens the door to a variety of other recreational activities, such as surfing, boating, scuba-diving and so on. With flexible schedules and a convenient location in accross the Wasatch Front, it’s never been easier to start learning to swim.

Grateful doesn’t even begin to cover it!

I just want to say thank you — to my incredible swimmers, supportive parents, and everyone who make this community so special.

Every stroke, every smile, and every milestone reached in the pool reminds me why I do what I do. Watching your kids gain confidence, friendships, and a lifelong love of swimming is the best reward of all.

Thank you for trusting me with your kids and for being part of my journey. Together, we’re building strong swimmers and even stronger individuals.

Dear Swim Families,

This is a reminder to sign up for April swimming lessons. Thank you for your flexibility this month while I completed my training. I received positive feedback about the availability of evening lesson times, so I will keep two evening slots open when my daytime schedule reopens tomorrow.

Saturday lessons will continue, but sign-ups will be postponed until I receive my children’s spring sports schedules.

Updated Schedule:
Mondays: 6-8 PM

Tuesdays: 11 AM - 3 PM

Wednesdays: 11 AM - 3 PM & 6-8 PM

Thursdays: Closed

Fridays: 11 AM - 3 PM

Saturdays: 8-1 AM or 1-6 PM (TBD)

WE ARE MOVING!! Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center here we come.

Any make ups we have will need to be refunded by Murray City.

You will be able to book your January lessons by the end of this week. My arrangement with Cottonwood Heights is different so we will have other changes in front of us. I will let you know as soon as we have all the details dialed in. Overall I this is a positive and exciting move for Swimmers Edge SLC.

I appreciate your patience as we make this transition.
