Carden Memorial's reading program takes a multi-sensory approach and lays a strong foundation in phonological and phonemic awareness.

It includes an emphasis on vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. At Carden, students discover the joy of books early on. By reading aloud daily, children become confident, capable readers. By learning from the best in classical literature, they learn important values and life-long lessons. In addition to our reading program and strong emphasis in math, our core curriculum also includes science,

“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”
— Ralph Waldo Emerson

We are so proud of our Carden graduates and all they stand for. Congratulations, and continue to “grow in wisdom!”

Today we honor Mrs. Goodwin, more than a headmaster, she is a woman whose life has quietly and faithfully shaped the heart of this school for many years, and whose influence will remain woven into these halls, into our families, and into each of us.

From her, we have learned that leadership is not loud, but steady. It is showing up early, staying late, carrying burdens quietly, and loving people consistently.

We have learned charity as the pure love of Christ. We have watched her notice the one who was struggling, encourage the discouraged teacher, protect the child who needed compassion, and extend grace when it would have been easier to criticize. She taught us that people matter more than programs.

We have learned gratitude for the small things:
The conversations in the hallway.
The reassuring smile before a difficult day.
The prayers offered quietly for students and staff.
The celebrations of tiny victories others might overlook.

There are generations of students who may never fully realize how much of their confidence, security, faith, and character was shaped because she was here. There are teachers who became better educators because she believed in them. There are families who found comfort and strength because of her influence.

She leaves behind a school that is kinder because she led it, and stronger because she sacrificed for it, and more faithful because she believed in its purpose.
And more loving because she lived that love every day.

For all the years, the prayers, the sacrifices, the wisdom, the compassion, and the unwavering love — thank you.

Your influence will remain here always. 05/30/2026
