We are excited to invite you to a webinar we're hosting on November 10th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. We'll be talking with Scott Baxter and Matt Kahabka about the current state of the Great Salt Lake. When water levels reached an all-time low this past summer, they set out on self-made kayaks and circumnavigated the lake to see the impact. Join us as we talk about their discoveries and adventures over their 6 day journey across the lake. Hear how they ate lunch on Great Salt Lakes reefs known as microbialites, how they slept on salt islands and immersed themselves in this important ecosystem. The Environmental Justice Team is excited to announce the release of a sticker! All you need to do to get a sticker is donate any amount to one of the Environmental Justice Organizations listed at the end of this post and send your receipt to [email protected]. Follow the link below for full details on the process.

The sticker design, created by Zoey Kourianos, is inspired by an environmental justice advocate named Mike Ewall & how he outlines why environmental equity is different from environmental justice. Whereas environmental equity would say “poison all people equally,” environmental justice calls for a total cessation of environmental poisoning. This sticker is intended to promote discussions in our campus community and to raise awareness about important issues like environmental racism, ecocide, and colonialism.

The Center works hard to engage and educate students through events. Our annual Waste Free Westminster workshops help teach important skills and information about reducing waste.

Westminster is hiring! The college is looking for a Food and Housing Security specialist to enhance, assess, and develop practices and procedures that support the Westminster Campus Community to increase food and housing security. This position is a full-time volunteer position supported by a grant through the Utah Food Corps VISTA project and the AmeriCorps Program.
