The Meaning of Life is Discovered in the Experience of Being Human

You can't build trust with someone who refuses to acknowledge their impact.

When someone consistently avoids accountability - making excuses, blaming circumstances, or turning the focus back on you - here's what I recommend:

Stop explaining their behaviour to them.

If they were seeking to understand how their actions affect you, you would experience this. Your role isn't to teach a grown adult basic emotional responsibility.

Stop accepting "I'm sorry you feel that way" as an apology.

That's not remorse, it's often dismissal disguised as an apology.

Real accountability sounds like "I hurt you and I understand why."

Make your own closure.

You can't see accountability from someone who's more committed to defending themselves than understanding you. Accept that their inability to take responsibility is showing you exactly where they are right now.

Focus on your response, not their recognition.

You don't need their admission of wrongdoing to know your experience was valid. Trust your reality even when they won't acknowledge it.

Decide if you can accept this long-term.

Some people genuinely lack the self-awareness or emotional maturity for accountability. You can't change this; you can only decide if you're willing to stay with someone who operates this way.

Your feelings don't require someone else's validation to be real.
