What is the most effective, diverse and accessible weapon?
A. Your body
B. Your body
C. Your body
Don’t rely on ANYTHING or ANYONE other than yourself for protection.
Your VOICE, HANDS, ELBOWS, KNEES, TEETH, HIPS and FEET are the most fundamental resources on your body.
The goal is to use your strengths against an attackers weaknesses.
VOICE: practice yelling from your diaphragm not your throat! Repetitively yell, “NO!” Take deep belly breaths in between to remind yourself where yelling needs to come from.
HANDS: gouge eyes, strike throat, grab testicles, pinch behind the arm, pull hair, break pinky fingers. Use the base of your balm to upward strike his nose. Punching (unless mastered or wearing a defense ring) isn’t using your strength against weakness. Chances are if you punch a man he’ll punch you back a lot harder or you’ll injure your hand and lose ability to practice previously mentioned strength moves.
ELBOWS: the front and back two inches of the elbow are two of the hardest hitting parts of the body. You can swing your elbows up, down, forward, backward and to the side. THROW THOSE ELBOWS... UP SIDE TO SIDE 🎶 (unintended, but I’m keepin’ it)
KNEES: use the TOP of your knee to hit the groin or anywhere else on the body that it’s closest to.
TEETH: BITE BITE BITE. Anywhere/everywhere. Fun fact- I bit my attacker so hard my teeth touched. GO HARD.
HIPS: use your hips to help stabilize your stance while you fight back. If he’s on top of you, use your hips to lift him up enough for you to lean side to side to slide out from under him.
FEET: use your feet to stabilize your stance!! Keep your weight on the balls NOT the heels. The heel of your foot can be a great resource to stomp on the top of his foot, strike a kick at his groin or face if you are on the ground trying to get out from under him.
The strike zone for a man is the centerline of his body. Meaning from his head to his groin.

For years I carried so much guilt for not closing my window.
The night of my attack I had an alarm set on my phone to remind me to close it.
The alarm was set for midnight. My attacker came in at 11:40 something.
I blamed everything that happened to me and especially to my little sister on myself.
Every time someone asked “Why didn’t you close your window?” It caused indescribable pain.
It got dark.
Until one day (after months of privileged therapy) I had a breakthrough….
WHY WOULD I BLAME MYSELF? WHY WOULD WE BLAME ANY VICTIM?
The onus was and is on the perpetrator. Always.
So instead of asking why I didn’t close my window? I now ask why he came through it?

Shut up” were the first words my attacker commanded after crawling through my bedroom window. He wanted control and thought he could get it by intimidating me with such commands. He put his big rough hand over my mouth to ensure I didn’t make a sound. He needed me to “shut up” in order to follow through with my premeditated murder.
Predators are scared of two things; 1. getting caught and 2. getting hurt. They rely on control and isolation to lessen their chances of those two things happening.
Oftentimes predators will tell you what not to do by telling you what to do. My attacker did just this when he told me to shut up. The only reason he told me to shut up was to intimidate me enough to gain control and isolation in hopes avoid getting caught and/or hurt. Spoiler alert- he got both caught and hurt.
Most girls, myself included, grow up with this dangerous contradiction; we’re told to scream if someone tries to take/hurt us, but we’re afar more often also told to be polite, kind, friendly, and even submissive if someone tries to hurt us with words / other actions. I’ll never forget feeling like I had to be submissive to the strange man trying to murder me. THAT IS NOT OKAY. I repeat that is NOT okay.

Predators want easy targets so they’re going to go to places where we’re easily distracted. ️The gas station being one of those places. ️ It’s so easy to get out of our cars without even thinking about our surroundings and being completely distracted.
Keep in mind the real issue here isn’t girls being distracted or unaware of their surroundings. The real issue is men being predators. Until we can figure out that solution, here are some tips to keep you and yours safe.
