CLASSICAL PIANO. UNEXPECTED PLACES.

In partnership with Visit Salt Lake and Diana & Joel Peterson School of Music, we present Gina Bachauer International Piano Foundation Buskers!

Throughout the summer, pianists have performed at downtown locations during major conventions, bringing live classical music directly into the streets.

all performed street concerts in downtown Salt Lake City, in spite of the looming rain and wild weather!

Locals and convention attendees alike stopped to appreciate the unusual sight and sounds of classical music being performed on the street by accomplished young pianists. Many stopped to interact and even offer tips!

2024 Bachauer Gold Medalist

Making his Carnegie Hall debut, Youl Sun presents a dazzling program. Music by Gabriela Lena Frank and Texu Kim builds toward Debussy's colorful Images and Liszt's monumental 12 Transcendental Etudes.

An article about Sun in The Korean Herald earlier this year says:

"The Liszt set is rarely played as a complete set, and was never written to be. Sun chose it anyway. 'It demands so much stamina and technique that it wasn't really composed to be played all at once,' he said. 'But I wanted to take it on while I still can. It felt like it had to be now.'

"The number 12 was part of the appeal. The etudes are linked by key — each major is paired with its relative minor, descending in thirds across the set — and Sun came to see them as a single tonal arc. 'They weren't written to be played in one breath," he said, "but I came to feel they could be.'"

Today at The Utah Review

A preview of Nevermore, this year’s summer show for the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center’s Performing Arts coalition. It's nearly sold out!

In the collective hands of the six Performing Arts Coalition members at the Rose Wagner Center for Performing Arts, that most famous poem has inspired an hour-long production, which will receive its only performance August 29 at 7 p.m. in The Rose’s Jeanné Wagner Theatre.

The companies featured are Gina Bachauer International Piano Foundation, Plan-B Theatre, PYGmalion Theatre Company, Repertory Dance Theatre, Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company and SB Dance.

For the 15th edition of the Performing Arts Coalition show, which has become a late August fixture for whetting the audience appetite for a new season of shows, concerts and productions, Nevermore, once again, signals a major creative evolution of the PAC’s programming concept for this open house performance.
