Top 3 Prenatal Fitness Myths—BUSTED 👊

These outdated beliefs are still floating around…
Let’s clear them up:

1️⃣ “Pregnant clients shouldn’t lift weights”
→ Strength training is often essential—when done right.

2️⃣ “Diastasis fixes itself”
→ Without focused rehab, it often doesn’t.

3️⃣ “Rest is the best solution”
→ In most cases, smart movement > full rest.

Not all certifications are created equal.

If you’re relying on a general fitness cert to train pregnant or postpartum clients… you’re missing critical pieces of the puzzle. 🧩

Here’s what most traditional certs completely overlook:
❌ Breath mechanics
❌ Stress & nervous system regulation
❌ Core & pelvic floor screening
❌ Postpartum depletion
❌ C-section recovery protocols

These aren’t “extras” — they’re essential to keeping your clients safe and progressing effectively.

That’s why we built the Live Pre & Postnatal Corrective Exercise Specialist Certification to go way deeper.

✅ Live coaching
✅ Corrective strategies
✅ Full-spectrum client support

Just because it’s common doesn’t mean it’s normal. 😬
Too many postpartum clients live with symptoms they think are “just part of motherhood” — but these are red flags 🚩 that deserve attention and support.

💧 Peeing when sneezing
💢 Back pain that never left
🌀 Feeling “off” in their core
😩 Constant anxiety or overwhelm
As a coach or birth worker, you’re in a powerful position to notice these signs and guide them toward real recovery. 💪

Want to learn how to screen for these issues and confidently support postpartum clients?

Are Your Clients Holding Their Breath Without Realizing It? 😮‍💨

If you notice clients holding their breath while getting off the floor, lifting a toddler, or standing up from a chair — it’s more than a habit.

It’s often a sign that their core system isn’t firing efficiently, especially during pregnancy or postpartum.
🔎 Breath-holding = a red flag for poor pressure management.

Instead, coach them to:
✅ Inhale before the movement begins
✅ Exhale on the effort (e.g. during the lift or stand)
✅ Keep the ribs stacked over the pelvis
✅ Stay aware of unnecessary tension in the neck, shoulders, or pelvic floor
Even small, everyday moves are chances to build core coordination and safety. 💡
Teach breath → then build load. That’s the Fit For Birth way.

🏗️ Ribs Over Pelvis: The #1 Alignment Cue You Might Be Missing

One of the most powerful (and misunderstood) alignment strategies in pregnancy and postpartum fitness is this: **stack your ribs over your pelvis.**

Why? Because this simple shift:
✅ Helps manage intra-abdominal pressure
✅ Reduces coning/doming during movement
✅ Supports pelvic floor and deep core function
✅ Sets your clients up for smoother breath mechanics

When ribs are flared or thrust forward (hello, pregnancy posture 👀), the deep core system loses its natural synergy — and that’s when compensation patterns show up.

🎯 Cue this in all positions: standing, sitting, lifting, even during breathwork.

Teach your clients to feel what “stacked” feels like — not braced, not tucked, just aligned.

💡This is one of the foundational principles inside the Pre & Postnatal Corrective Exercise Specialist course (link in bio!)— because better alignment = better outcomes.

🤰Why You Might See Doming During Planks in the 1st Trimester (and What to Do About It)
If your pregnant client is experiencing doming or bulging down the midline of their abs during planks, that’s a sign their core can’t manage the pressure load in that position (yet!). This isn’t about fear — it’s about awareness and scaling for success.
In the first trimester, hormonal shifts and fatigue can impact core coordination and intra-abdominal pressure — even before there’s a visible belly.
Here’s what to do:
✅ Regress to a more supported position (like incline planks or wall planks)
✅ Teach 360 breathing and cue the deep core (TVA and pelvic floor)
✅ Prioritize alignment: ribs over hips, gentle head nod, and no bracing
✅ Look for signs of pressure management before progressing
Remember: Just because a movement is technically “safe” doesn’t mean it’s appropriate for every pregnant body.
👩‍🏫 These are the exact strategies we teach inside the Pre & Postnatal Corrective Exercise Specialist course from — because scaling movement isn’t just smart, it’s corrective.
