Here’s Pattern 3 of the G minor pentatonic scale 🎸
This pattern is great for getting more comfortable outside the usual starting shape and seeing the scale in a new area of the neck.
Once you have the notes down, don’t just run through it once and move on.
Use it to work on speed, consistency, and control. Try going up and down the pattern, picking each note multiple times, or playing it with a metronome so every note lands right on the beat.
The better you can control one small pattern, the easier it gets to play across the neck without feeling like you’re guessing.

So proud of Myles performing Welcome Home (Sanitarium) by Metallica.
He's been playing guitar for years, but this was his first time on stage. Not an easy song to choose, either. 🤘

How to properly play an open chord G on the guitar 🎸
If your G chord feels awkward or limits your transitions, this might be why.
Playing it the right way now prevents problems later, like muted strings or finger pain from a cramped hand position.
This small tweak now will help you out a lot in the long run.

🎵This chord progression is a little different because a few of the chords are 7th chords.
You’ll see Fmaj7 instead of F and Am7 instead of Am. 🎸
It may not seem like a huge change, but swapping one regular chord for a 7th chord can make the whole progression sound smoother, richer, and a little more colorful.
These chords are great to practice because you’re not always learning brand new chords from scratch.
Sometimes you’re just changing the notes inside a chord and suddenly the progression has a completely different feel.
Try these chord progressions out and see what resonates with you the most 🤘🤘

By the time most players learn all 5 pentatonic patterns… they still end up sounding like they’re just practicing scales 😅
That’s because knowing the shapes isn’t the same as knowing how to phrase.
These licks use Pattern 5 of the A minor pentatonic scale to help you start turning the pattern into actual musical ideas 👊
Once you can play them, make it your own and try:
• changing the rhythm
• adding pauses
• combining both licks together
• creating your own ending phrase
That’s where scales start sounding more like music instead of exercises 🤘

Here’s Pattern 2 of the G minor pentatonic scale 🎸
This shape is a great next step after Pattern 1 because it helps you start seeing the scale in more than one spot on the neck.
When you practice it, don’t just try to get through the notes. Go slow enough that every note is clean, your picking stays accurate, and you can stay on the beat.

Here are a few common chord progressions in the key of G.
A good way to practice these is to loop each one slowly and focus on clean changes first.
Don’t rush it.
Once the chords feel smooth, try changing the rhythm or strumming pattern so it starts sounding more like actual music instead of just an exercise.
