Backman was chosen as the first school to participate in the Ken Garff for Good Utah 2034 Education Opening Ceremony in preparation for the 2034 Olympics and Paralympics. Students were able to meet real Olympians and Paralympians. We also learned our students can earn a gold medal for the school by reading 30 minutes every night. So everybody get reading! Backman Entrepreneurial Artisan Program attended the Craft Lake City D.I.Y. Festival on August 8 to sell artisan products they made all year long. The kids will be able to use that money to buy art supplies to continue their artisan journeys. The students in this program learn different arts and crafts mediums, learn about the business aspect of being a working artist, get to meet and learn from working artists, and end this portion of their journey at the festival. Thank you Craft Lake City and DonorsChoose for supporting this program so that it is free for all participants.

Backman's 3rd - 6th graders had the amazing opportunity to attend an assembly about coding video games! They were able to play with a GIANT video game controller and learn about careers in the field!

Backman Entrepreneurial Artisan Program is in full swing. Kids are learning arts and crafts, as well as the business side of being an artist. They will be creating through the summer in order to sell their art at the Craft Lake City D.I.Y. Festival in August. Money goes to buying the students their own art supplies. Thank you to our community partner for supporting our students and making this experience possible.

Congratulations to Hollie Fernandez! She was nominated and won an award for being an amazing para here at Backman! She received several items from Western Governors University, including a certificate, flowers, gift card and some swag.

Congratulations to Topanga Patterson, Maria Bahena, and Shawna Azbill who were also nominated and received a certificate and some swag! We love and appreciate our paraprofessionals!

A special thank you to Melissa Jensen and Ismar Vallecio for honoring our paras!
