Congratulations to the 12 Utah Finalists in the National STEM Festival presented by EXPLR

The National STEM Festival presented by EXPLR Discover the 2025 National STEM Festival Finalists! Celebrate the nation's brightest middle and high school innovators tackling real-world challenges in STEM.

One of the students on the USEF Student Advisory Board created an online resource for students to help with their science research project.

The page is FREE and was created by the student after talking to other students. He found that a lot of well-resourced kids are using Generative AI tools (like OpenAI’s premium subscriptions) to support their projects. As he put it, "That’s great for them, but I am worried it could make the gap between those who have access and those who don’t even bigger."

Based on recommendations from Society for Science, he has updated the program to include additional prompts for additional safety and guidance.

1. He added links to the ISEF forms, rules, and the forms wizard on the top of the page, before anyone interacts with the assistant.
2. He changed the model so that the assistant never gives any information about forms and instead, asks user to refer to teachers and fair directors.
3. He added a disclaimer "Before collecting data, consult your teacher or regional/state fair director for guidance" right in the chat window.
4. He added a list of the ways to cite the assistant at the bottom of the page.

The USEF Student Advisory Board has started the after school science workshop at St. Francis Xavier school in Kearns. There are 55 students signed up for the workshop in 5th-8th grade. That's almost every student in those grades! It was a great afternoon!
