The Garfield School Story
Garfield School (opened in the fall of 2017) is a private, non-profit Secondary school (Middle/High school, 7th-12th grade) which focuses on inclusion and is based on Montessori principles. (An infant and toddler classroom resides at the Garfield School as an extension of Elizabeth Academy.) The Garfield school is located at 1838 S. 1500 E., Salt Lake City, in the Sugarhouse area.
Fully embracing the Montessori philosophy, method and educational best practices, this school is a model school for curricular integration and inclusion, designed to challenge and inspire diverse learners from the infant level through High School. Our Montessori (MACTE) credentialed and experienced teachers utilize the broad scope and sequence of the Montessori method and materials, which allows for spiral learning and individualized instruction. They work collaboratively with skilled teams who are adept in creating academic adaptations. These teams consist of an array of expert therapists, special educators and unique program specialists. All combined, ours is an amazing holistic program which enhances critical thinking and growth for all students at all levels of ability.
Inclusion at our school means much more than just “special needs”. We are a diverse community and also a fully accredited school with a curriculum catering to highly academic, college-bound students.
