Today is World Teachers' Day, a worldwide event launched by UNESCO in 1994 to celebrate teachers, recognize their achievements, and admire their dedication to inspiring young minds! Educators play an incredibly important role in our AFS community – whether it’s facilitating intercultural learning in their classrooms, spearheading clubs at school, or making exchange students feel welcome in the community, teachers are an essential part of the exchange experience. From all of us at AFS-USA, we recognize and appreciate teachers across the globe who help make studying abroad an unforgettable experience!

Ameer is confident, open-minded, and outgoing. He likes sports like volleyball and swimming, outdoor activities like camping and hiking, cooking, and participating in student government. He also has an artistic side! He's a recipient of a Youth Exchange and Study (YES) full scholarship.

Day 28: Pelin from Turkiye

Pelin social, outgoing, and open-minded. She enjoys creative activities like writing, journalism, theater, and ukulele, and loves to spend time with her family. She also enjoys debate, and is an animal lover. She avoids eating red meat, but is otherwise willing to be flexible with her vegetarian diet. She is a recipient of the YES scholarship.

Day 27: Alèxia from Spain

Alèxia comes from a small town, and has a variety of interests including singing, tennis, volleyball, cooking, dance, and swimming. She's also an avid reader, and is responsible, cheerful, and open-minded. She gets along well with her younger brother. A true multilingual, she speaks/studies English, Spanish, Catalan, French, and German! She's open to living with any kind of host family.

Mariana is independent, active, and genuinely loves to learn! She likes sports, trying new foods, and relaxing with her friends and family. She's open to all types of host families!

Day 25: Oliwier from Germany

Oliwier is service-oriented, hardworking, studious, and independent. He loves taking his dog for walks. He's originally from Poland, and has lived in Germany since he was young. He's eager to experience the diverse cultures of the US while sharing German and Polish culture with you! He's a recipient of the highly competitive CBYX scholarship, fully funded by the US Congress and German Bundestag.

Day 24: Anas from Libya

Anas loves to draw, and can't wait to share his art with his host family and community. He also likes family movie nights, coding, and volleyball. He's a recipient of the competitive Youth Exchange and Study (YES) scholarship.

Şebnem is passionate about her creative hobbies, including songwriting, playing the keyboard, drawing, and crafting, and she'd love to go to art school someday! She's also a volleyball player, and enjoys learning about astronomy. She values deep connections with her family and friends.

Day 22: Aulia from Indonesia

Aulia is creative, active, and responsible. She works hard in school, and enjoys volunteering in her community. She loves to dance, run, and is an avid reader. When she's home with her family, she enjoys baking and cooking. She is a recipient of a Youth Exchange and Study (YES) full scholarship.

Day 21: Felix from France!

Felix is athletic, outgoing, and optimistic. He loves sports like handball, rock climbing, and studying languages. In addition to English, he also studies Mandarin Chinese and German! His favorite classes are math and physics, and he plans to be a pilot in the French military someday.
