Job Summary: The University of Utah Center for Community Nutrition’s Assistant Professor (Clinical) is responsible for diabetes prevention programs reaching secondary school students. The Assistant Professor (Clinical) is a vital member of the Driving out Diabetes Initiative. The individual in this position will develop curriculum and marketing materials, develop training materials for secondary teachers and will provide instruction in 10th grade health classes. The Assistant Professor (Clinical) coordinates evaluation and research methods as part of the initiative’s commitment to tracking education and health outcomes. The incumbent reports to the Executive Director of the University of Utah Center for Community Nutrition, which is located in the Department of Nutrition and Integrative Physiology.
Responsibilities:
- Create or update teaching curriculum for diabetes prevention programs
- Deliver six nutrition and physical activity lessons to high school students
- Develop a training program to prepare secondary health teachers to deliver Team Thrive, a diabetes prevention program for tenth grade students
- Create a respectful, safe secondary school classroom environment and manage student behavior
- Collect health related data before and after Team Thrive, and as part of teacher training programs
- Assist with analysis of data collected before and after Team Thrive, and as part of teacher training programs
- Serve as a member of the University of Utah Center for Community Nutrition team
- Attend department and college functions, such as College of Health beginning and end of year meetings and graduation ceremonies
- Other duties and assignments, as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Health Education, Kinesiology, Nutrition or related area
- Experience teaching lifestyle concepts and influencing health behaviors
- Willing to travel within the state of Utah
- Experience with diverse populations and demonstrated cultural competency
- Self-directed, highly organized, and punctual
Preferences:
- Additional experience
- Two years or more of teaching experience in the community or in schools
