The Sammy Center has welcomed a new member of the family, our pet bunny, Pastino! 🐰 He has made his home in our Nature Area, where he’ll help teach our children kindness, empathy, gentleness, and responsibility. We know that caring for animals has a positive impact on children’s social-emotional development, and, of course, he’s absolutely adorable!

🧠Fun Fact: Animals are known to help lower stress hormones like cortisol and oxytocin. For children, animals also help build empathy, boundaries, social skills, and emotional regulation.🫀

🌟 Did You Know? Engagement Matters! 🌟

Not all play looks the same and that’s what we love! In early childhood, we often see different levels of engagement, and each one tells us something about a child’s learning.

🧩 Active engagement: Children are exploring, asking questions, creating, and interacting with others.
👀 Observational engagement: Sometimes children learn by watching before they’re ready to join in.
🤝 Social engagement: Playing and collaborating with peers helps build communication and problem-solving skills.
🌱 Independent engagement: Solo play encourages creativity, confidence, and self-regulation.

Every child engages differently, and all of these forms of participation support healthy development. At our preschool, we honor each child’s unique learning journey by creating opportunities for every type of engagement to flourish. 💛
