Low back pain prevention starts with better evidence. RMCOEH’s BackWorks prospective cohort study followed more than 800 workers from 30 employers across four states to better understand low back pain prevalence, job and individual risk factors, and models for predicting risk.

The study measured real work demands such as lifting rates, object weights, pushing and pulling forces, and lift distances, helping connect workplace design to worker health.

RMCOEH student Hunter Bidwell is spending his summer interning at Resolution Copper, a Rio Tinto operation in Arizona, gaining real-world engineering experience.
