This Men’s Health Month, we asked a few of our mental health providers a simple question: how do you take care of your own mental health?
Their answers remind us that caring for your mind is not a sign of weakness; it is part of being human.
“Outside of working with a wonderful therapist for many years, I maintain and manage my mental health through exercise (kickball league), weight training, and hiking. These activities keep me moving and help me to feel grounded in my body while clearing my head. This all leads to an overall calming and relaxing sensation throughout my body.” -Torrence Wimbish, PhD, Doctor of Counseling Psychology, Manager of the MH1 Program at University of Utah
Taking care of yourself can look different for everyone. What matters is making space for it.
You are not alone in this. 💚

University of Utah Health hospitals and clinics remain open and continue to provide patient care.
As wildfire smoke continues to affect air quality, U of U Health facilities are operating normally and have measures in place to help reduce potential smoke exposure indoors.
Individuals who are sensitive to smoke are encouraged to remain indoors as much as possible and wear a mask when outdoors until air quality improves.
Our teams are closely monitoring conditions and coordinating with fire officials and public safety partners to ensure the safety of our patients, visitors, and employees.
We are grateful to the firefighters and first responders whose ongoing efforts are helping protect our community.

A walk around the block. Sitting in the sun. A quick break between meetings. It all counts.
