Heavy gratitude this AAPI Month to our village that continues to shape, support, and strengthen every part of our recital journey. It truly takes a village not only to raise a child, but to build something rooted in culture, discipline, and purpose.
Shoutout to for laying the foundation with our 2020 costumes and continuing that excellence through 2021 alongside , bringing our KIEKIE and TA’OVALA and Elei pieces to life. Appreciation as well to PJ for our 2021 recital costumes.
For our 2022 winter recital, we were honored to collaborate with in creating our TA’OVALA and Elei designs, including sewing our girls’ tops—true artistry with cultural respect at the center.

Ta afe atu ’i ’Uihá
(Let us turn to ’Uiha)
Veimapu mo Faiméalava
(Important historic landmarks in ‘Uiha)
Ke ke muomua ki he Touá
(You will lead to the Tou’a — Seat of the Kava mixers)
Kau muimui ki he Olovahá
(I will follow to the “Olovaha” — Royal Seat of the Honored Guest)
— Queen Salote Tupou III 🇹🇴
This is more than poetry — it is a map of respect. Through ‘Uiha, Queen Salote is showing how Tongan life is ordered: who leads, who follows, and how every role carries dignity. It is land, ceremony, and identity spoken in harmony — reminding us that in Tonga, respect is not said, it is lived.
‘Uiha is also one of the two villages where the Fa’onelua mangrove can be found. The other is Lapaha — both places holding deep cultural and ancestral significance, rooted in land, tradition, and identity.
