My Sweet Cheeks front-porch pearl of wisdom sparked lots of conversations about Gift Cards. Let’s keep the conversation going 💬
There seems to be a love/hate relationship with gift card sales from solo estheticians and honestly that was me for a lot of years until I grew my business, grew a team and developed a better understanding about gift cards and that the pros far outweigh the cons
1. Not all gift card currency = direct cash. Gift card sales can also look like…
• new clients who may not have booked with you originally and who may continue to rebook with you
• deeper service to current clientele
• opportunity to sell retail products
• community outreach & involvement
• immediate cash injection for your business
2. Always track who purchases a gift card, the date of GC purchase and if available who they bought the gift card for. This gives you the opportunity to connect with and schedule gift cards accordingly (perfect for slower weeks or seasons)
3. Money from gift card sales can get muddied if not done with intention, sometimes making an esthetician feel like you’re doing a free service because the money has been long spent. Create a system to pay yourself/the business a percentage at the time of the sale, then tuck away or reserve the remainder to pay yourself at the actual time of gift card redemption
4. Gift card donations are one of the biggest ways to get your name out there, support local events or charities and bring in a whole new set of clients who may or may not have ever come in to see you. My best advice for gift card donations: offer to match their gift card purchase when someone is seeking a donation. This doubles the donation overall, creates a respectful transaction and gives you some revenue to run on
5. Gift card sales are always a win/win. View them as an opportunity to establish a new relationship, create a new connection, grow your client list, add additional revenue to your practice right now, and deepen the level of service to your current clients and community 👌
