Today I am officially retired from Salisbury University. It is somewhat surreal. While I am at peace with my decision, I will miss my students, colleagues, and co-workers. I can tell you that the 'next' chapter of my life is already great, yet, there is part of me that will miss going to work and feeling like I make a difference. I am still exploring options and know that when it is all said and done, God has a plan and He is not done with me yet.
Thank you to all of you who have conveyed your best wishes. I greatly appreciate them and you!!

To all my colleagues, friends, and family who donated to Lori's scholarship fund... THANK YOU. Once the final tally is in, we will have raised over $4000 toward the scholarship fund. Lori would be so pleased and humbled!

"A bigger future is essential for lifetime growth. The past is useful because it is rich with experiences that are worth thinking about in new ways --- and all these valuable experiences can become raw material for creating an even bigger future. Approach your past with this attitude, and you will have an insatiable desire for even better, more enjoyable experiences. Use your past to continually create a bigger future, and you will separate yourself from situations, relationships, and activities that can trap you there."

The past couple of weeks have been eventful. I have one more thing to add to the list. I have made the decision, effective August 15, 2024 and have submitted my letter, to retire from Salisbury University after 17 years of serving on the faculty. I have heard it said over and over that when it is time, you will know. Well, in the words of that immortal philosopher Rafiki, "It is time!". As I pondered this post, I thought I would do a "brief" recap of the past 17 years and discovered that I was delusional in thinking that I could be brief in describing all that I have experienced at SU over the past 17 years. So, instead, I will embark on a series of posts chronicling my journey at SU sharing what I consider to be some of the highlights. I am doing this mostly for a written record for posterity, but also some of you may find some of my experiences entertaining and/or interesting. 😎 It's been a great ride but I am excited to see where the future takes me! Stay tuned!

"We must choose positive emotions, while negative emotions seem yo choose us.
That's why optimism is a discipline. It takes discipline to see the good when things are going bad. It takes discipline to see beauty in the midst of tragedy. It takes discipline to see the best in people when they let us down. It takes discipline to forgive when the person does not deserve it. It takes discipline to reject the negative voices in our heads and choose to listen to the optimist who's cheering us on."
