There's a way to make "sensory" art work on walls, and it's not what you usually see in senior living.
Big blocks of wood with ropes and bells don't engage anyone, but this cool piece of art we built for works because it allows residents to move flowers in front of the window.

So instead of trying another activity, we went back to his wheelhouse.
We used tools like Google Scholar to find a recent research article in his field, printed it, and asked for his help reviewing it.
This approach is often used in professional care settings, but it works just as well at home.
Engagement and purpose don’t go away with dementia. Sometimes we just need to meet someone in the space where they’ve always felt most like themselves.
