‘Twas the Night Before School at St. Francis
’Twas the night before school, and throughout every home,
Our Penguins were dreaming of the halls they have known.
The backpacks were packed by the doorway with care,
With uniforms ready and shoes waiting there.
Some children felt eager, while some had some fears,
With butterflies fluttering as bedtime drew near.
“Will I find my classroom? Will I make a new friend?”
At St. Francis, you’re family from beginning to end.
For many, this school is the place they call home,
Where they are loved, known, and never alone.
For others, tomorrow will feel very new,
With unfamiliar faces and new things to do.
Some may be leaving a school crowded and wide,
But here, they’ll find family standing close by.
More than fifty new students will walk through our doors,
Bringing new gifts and talents to add to our own.
From our littlest Penguins in Pre-K 3 so small,
Through our brand-new tenth grade, we welcome them all!
Yes, ninth and tenth grade, what exciting news!
Our Emperor Penguins are ready to cruise!
Our returning Penguins have a special job too:
To welcome each student whose journey is new.
With a little Chilly Penguin to lovingly share,
They’ll show every newcomer that someone is there.
That Penguin will say, “You belong here with me.
You’re now part of our St. Francis family.”
So whether returning or starting anew,
There’s a place at St. Francis prepared just for you.
You are known, you are treasured, you’re never alone
For St. Francis de Sales will always feel like home.
Now settle down gently and turn out the light;
Tomorrow our hallways will shine warm and bright.
Welcome home, Penguins; tomorrow’s the day!
May God bless and guide us as we learn, love, and pray.
Happy first day to all; let the new school year begin!
