on May 1st, 2026, the History Department held its annual Honors celebration, including the induction ceremony for students joining our Phi Alpha Theta Eta-Iota Honor society Chapter, and the bestowing of several distinguished awards for outstanding students' achievements. Recognition of our amazing students', Adjuncts', and Faculty's recent successes was followed by a lovely reception at the Alumni House. We are so proud of all of you!

on April 16th, students in Dr. Carayon's HIST 302(Colonial and Revolutionary America) traveled in time to early July 1776 to debate whether the 13 colonies should declare Independence from Great Britain. Based on their close reading of contemporary sources representing a variety of points of view, they engaged into a lively and critical battle of the wits. Our three impartial judges (graduate students in History from our MA program!) declared the final winner, and, brace yourselves, THE LOYALISTS WON THE DAY with their passionate argumentation. God Save the King! 😀 Nevertheless, we will continue our exploration of the Declaration for its 250th anniversary!

Dr McCarty’s first-year seminar students worked with Jeff Dean at the Writing Center today, learning strategies for peer review to help start editing their research papers on early modern East Asia. Their topics include military technology, strategies, and leadership in China, Japan, and Korea; politics and economy; the role of women in East Asian society; and Buddhism, Confucianism, and Shinto!

Dr Walton’s prosem class had a tour of the archives at the Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History & Culture today and got to explore documents and pictures from the 1500s to the early 20th century today as they are learning to research for their papers this term. Thanks to Ian Post for the amazing tour

Charles Reigle is presenting his history capstone research paper at SUSRC now! Some amazing work done at the conference by Salisbury University that promotes undergraduate research.

Congrats to history junior Charles Reigle for his presentation on the US Constitution at the National Conference for Undergraduate Research this week! We hear he did an amazing job!

The Office of Cultural Affairs presents a screening of Rosenwald, The Remarkable Story of a Jewish Partnership with African American Communities 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 29, in the Herman van Apeldoorn Film Center, Fulton Hall Room 111. The film is a documentary on the story of how Jewish businessman and philanthropist Julius Rosenwald joined with Booker T. Washington and African American communities to build schools for underserved African American children during the early part of the 20th century.
