Peace in the Park, Salisbury

Peace in the Park, Salisbury This is the fourth consecutive year for "Peace in the Park," in Salisbury. It will be on Saturday, September 22nd from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM.

Peace in the Park" is actually part of a much bigger celebration held around the world every year on September 21st. This is the UN's International Day of Peace and Nonviolence. It all started with an epiphany on the part of a young filmmaker, Jeremy Gilley. Gilley's idea was that we should have an international day of peace and nonviolence, and by that he meant a total ceasefire. He worked for tw

o years, traveling the world and talking to famous leaders in an astounding number of nations. He met the Dalai Lama, Sharon Perez, Kofi Annan, members of the League of Arab States, and countless others. After two years, Gilley presented his case to the UN, and his resolution was unanimously passed. After the resolution was passed, the Peace One Day foundation received more publicity, but there were no ceasefires. Jeremy felt that the day was not accomplishing what he wanted. Gradually, more celebrities became involved, most notably Angelina Jolie, Jude Law, and Annie Lennox. The celebrities created more media interest, but the Peace One Day organization was running out of money. Fortunately, the CocaCola company agreed to back them financially. Now financially secure, Jeremy was able to hire a small staff and Peace One Day was about to facilitate peace activities beyond anyone's wildest dreams! Like · · August 15 at 4:27pm
