Love seeing locally owned markets like Simmons Center Market celebrating so many years in business! Did you know they butcher their own beef in house? They also sell items from many local farms. Check them out in Cambridge, MD.

This morning back in 1937 we opened our doors for the very first time! Over the past 89 years we have seen a little bit of everything when it comes to business! We try everyday to keep providing the best products to our customers and continue to expand our options. Our fresh meats are still the top product that sets us apart from others! If you haven’t stopped in and tried it you should. We can’t thank our amazing customers for all of their past and continued support over the years! Here is to another year! Ps if you’re driving by in the next few weeks check out our new windows going in!

Looking for a sweet end-of-summer treat? Slice and layer fresh peaches and arrange in a pie plate. Top with a mixture of equal parts flour, brown sugar, old fashioned oats, a pinch of cinnamon, and enough melted butter to moisten (we used a literal handful of each of the dry ingredients in about 3 tablespoons of butter). Throw into a 375° oven for 20 minutes or until streusel has browned and peaches are bubbly. Serve warm, adding fresh basil (trust us here, it’s delicious).

We grabbed some peaches from Blades Orchard at the Camden Avenue Farmers Market last week. Waited a little too long to eat them, but after peeling found there was still a lot of juicy, delicious fruit inside. (Yes you can eat the skin, we went this route because it was overripe)

Peaches give you a great dose of Vitamins A & C and are a perfect fix for a sweet tooth.

Frozen naan flatbread from (or your local Indian grocer) toasts up quickly and makes a complete meal when you load it up with nutritious toppings. One of our favorites is “spinach cheese naan” where we top toasted naan with cooked, frozen spinach, coriander, a dash of salt and some cheese before putting back in the oven. We also 💚 breakfast naan topped with egg and veggies, or yogurt, fruit and granola. They’re kept in the freezer because they have very few ingredients and no preservatives. While these are non-traditional uses, naan is a great convenience food to keep on hand for quick and healthy meals! What would you put on your naan?

It’s true, we are obsessed! We can’t seem to get enough of Chesterfield Heirlooms okra, even eating it for breakfast! If it’s the texture that scares you, you just need to follow a couple easy steps to fix: 1 - avoid cooking in water and 2 - cook it a high heat (grill/ roast/ sauté) until it begins to crisp and the “slime” breaks down and cooks off. What exactly is the goo in okra? It is a water soluble mucilaginous fiber that becomes slimy as the fiber dissolves in water. This high fiber, high protein breakfast was filling and delicious. Recipe in the comments.

Raiding your refrigerator can make the perfect “here we go again” meal. Shaved some leftover corn on the cob, tossed in some leftover shrimp, all piled on top of salad greens from Chesterfield Heirlooms. You could add some olive oil, but the corn was sweet enough to leave it undressed.

Quick meal idea for busy days: sauté seasonal veggie, add in a bag of pre-steamed rice, and protein of choice. Today we used local okra and pre-cooked chicken for a balanced lunch ready in minutes.

One pot Sunday supper that’s easy, flavorful, & super satisfying. For our version of pasta fagioli, we started soaking the beans in the morning to make the whole dish come together in about 45 minutes. So. Good. And did we mention that the pasta becomes a resistant starch overnight in the fridge so it’s the perfect thing to pack for lunch on Monday? Recipe in the comments🤤
