Today, we officially cut the ribbon on The Salisbury School’s newly renovated Lower School!

Months of planning, construction, collaboration, and generous community support came together as our TSS community gathered for the big reveal.

These transformed spaces were designed for the way our youngest Dragons learn best: through curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and hands-on experiences.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped bring this vision to life.

Now comes the best part: filling these spaces with our students.

Meet Libby Donoway, rising senior and courthouse professional!

Libby has been interning with Judge Sarbanes this summer, and the commitment doesn’t stop when school starts. She’ll be continuing her internship straight through her senior year. 🏛️

Libby credits her social and political science classes at The Salisbury School for preparing her to observe closely, think critically, and bring a community-minded lens to everything she does. In her own words:

“Being exposed to such a significant and often overlooked fundamental of society has opened my eyes to the inner workings of the public and the importance of the justice system. I can’t wait to continue my learning into the school year as I proceed with my internship!”

We can’t wait to hear what she brings back to the classroom. Our small, colloquium-style humanities classes are built for exactly this, so students like Libby can share, question, and grow together.

There’s an old saying: you plant trees whose shade you’ll never sit under. At the heart of our Lower School campaign are the generations of students who have walked these halls, learned to read in these classrooms, and grown into the people they are today. 🌈 What a sign! Over the weekend, our campus caretakers Marlene and Miguel captured this stunning rainbow over campus after a storm, and we think it’s the perfect welcome back moment.

Today, we welcomed our full faculty and staff back to campus! Our incredible maintenance team has been working hard behind the scenes to get everything sparkling and ready for you. Now, our faculty and staff are putting the finishing touches on their classrooms, reconnecting with one another, and embracing the excitement of a new year.

The Salisbury School and Mr. Joe Freeman, Director of College Counseling, are excited to begin Apps Calling, a brand-new program designed to give our rising seniors dedicated time, expert support, and a collaborative environment to tackle their college applications head-on.

As a college preparatory school, TSS builds toward this moment from day one. Beginning in ninth grade, all four years include a College Prep program designed to fully prepare students for college, the workforce, a trade, or whatever professional path they choose after TSS. Apps Calling celebrates that preparation, putting everything our rising seniors have learned into action to give them a head start on their upcoming applications.

Spread across three sessions, Apps Calling offers six flexible hours for students to work where they are in the process, whether that’s drafting a personal statement, wrestling with supplemental essays, or navigating the Common App for the first time. Essay coaching and review with Mr. Freeman will be available. Apps Calling kicks off what promises to be a strong college season for the Class of 2027, and a reminder that at TSS, no student goes through this process alone.

The Salisbury School is proud to recognize Upper School students Lily Gilchrist and Sydney Matyiko and Middle School student Lucy Matyiko for their participation in Civil Air Patrol this summer. All three are members of the Wicomico Composite Squadron, which was recently named Maryland Wing’s 2025 Squadron of the Year. Civil Air Patrol is a nonprofit organization and the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, open to students ages 12 and up, which is how Lucy recently joined the squadron. Civil Air Patrol offers young people opportunities in aerospace education, leadership development, and community service.

Lily and Sydney bring the skills they develop through Civil Air Patrol directly into their lives at TSS, from their STEM and engineering coursework to their participation in athletics and experiences like our Art of Flight Experiential Week. The knowledge and leadership they gain through CAP deepens the work they do inside the classroom and beyond.

We are one week out from the Lower School reveal and ribbon cutting, and it truly takes a village to get ready for our students to return!

The Campaign for the Lower School reimagined the spaces where our youngest Dragons learn and grow on Hobbs Road, and thanks to our alumni, families, and friends of TSS, that vision has come to life, and we’re one week from sharing it with you!

Thank you to the Salisbury University Women’s Volleyball team for coming to campus to help our teachers prepare their classrooms! They were so helpful, and we love their community spirit and support!
