Dog ticks, like the one pictured here, aren't much of a concern because they don't carry much disease in New England. Blacklegged (aka deer) ticks can carry Lyme disease in New England. We have found that about 40% carry disease in New Hampshire.

Tick Bite Prevention:

1. Wear long sleeves and long pants. Tuck shirt into pants and pants into socks. Wear light colored clothing to see ticks easier. Tie long hair back.

2. Spray clothes and shoes with permethrin repellent.

3. Check your body for ticks. Look for small dark spots (check freckles) and feel for bumps. Send us any ticks you find!

4. Remove ticks promptly and correctly. Hold the tick as close to the head as possible with a pair of tweezers. Pull straight out. Do not twist. Clean the bite site.

5. Worried about an insect bite? Talk with your health care provider.

Can you spot the blacklegged tick (aka deer tick)? About 40% of blacklegged ticks in NH carry disease. Make sure to check for ticks daily and send us any ticks you find! We are a volunteer run nonprofit, and we select ticks to test at the end of the season in bulk.

This is an adult dog ticks. Bebop Labs still tracks dog ticks even though they aren't much of a threat in New England. We have found that about 1 out of 1000 carry a tick-borne disease in NH.
