Nurse fatigue isn’t just a workforce issue. It’s a patient safety issue.

At the federal level, the American Nurses Association is advocating for the Nurse Overtime and Patient Safety Act (H.R. 10056/S. 5319), legislation that would establish protections around mandatory overtime for nurses.

The bill would:

• Restrict healthcare facilities’ ability to require nurses to work overtime and include whistleblower protections
• Preserve nurses’ option to work overtime voluntarily
• Provide exceptions during a declared emergency or disaster

ANA-Michigan joins the American Nurses Association in encouraging nurses to make their voices heard. Urge your members of Congress to support the Nurse Overtime and Patient Safety Act.

🌟 Meet the Board: Barbara Medvec ✨

What inspired you to serve on the ANA-Michigan Board?

“My love for the nursing profession and my desire to give back inspired me to serve. Over the past 30+ years, nursing has given me so much, from caring for patients and families to teaching the next generation.

Throughout my career, I’ve seen both the challenges nurses face and the incredible difference we make every day. I’m passionate about supporting nurses, helping them grow, and ensuring they feel connected to a larger community that truly understands the realities of our profession.

I believe we are stronger when we learn from one another and work together to advance nursing. Serving on the ANA-Michigan Board allows me to do just that, while connecting with inspiring nurses across the state who are committed to making a difference.”

👏 Thank you, Barb, for your leadership and dedication to Michigan nurses!
