Barocio details her family's journey from Texas to California with a distinct tenderness, a reverence for memory, and a personable honesty. As a book, We Are All Others / Todas Somos Otras, helps the reader question what they've inherited and how it affects their own personal story.

October is Family History Month! Tracing your family history can be an incredibly rewarding journey, but getting started can feel overwhelming. With countless tools, databases, and documents out there, how do you even begin?

Our virtual Genealogy Basics: Getting Started class, will walk you through the fundamentals of family history research. You’ll learn how to gather key information from your relatives, which tools and resources are most reliable and beginner-friendly, how to use the internet and online databases effectively, and tips and tricks to help uncover hidden parts of your family story.

Come celebrate World Postcard Day at the John Steinbeck Library TODAY 9/30/26 from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM!

Write a postcard to a friend or loved one or learn about the international hobby, Postcrossing. We'll have postcard-related activities for participants ages 6+. Drop by together as a family, bring a group of friends, or stop by and meet new people in your library community!

Do you have postcards at home you're not sure what to do with? Bring them to write on or share with others! The library will also provide postcards (including the official World Postcard Day card), stickers, washi tape, and even postage if you intend to send your card in the mail.

New to snail mail? No worries! We'll walk you through the process!

Today is the day! Guide Dog puppies will be at the library! There will aslo be a working Guide Dog with its handler, as well as therapy dogs.

Ever wondered what it takes for a playful puppy to become a life-changing Guide Dog? Jennifer Hansen will walk us through the journey — from adorable puppies to fully trained partners for people who are blind or have low vision. You'll learn about the training a Guide Dog goes through, and what it takes to become a puppy raiser or volunteer.

Our Healthy Living Series- Dogs Making a Difference: From Puppy to Guide Dog program is TODAY, Tuesday, September 29th from 5-6 PM at the El Gabilan Library.

No registration is necessary.
Children are welcome if accompanied by an adult.
