Images from the newly arranged living room studio! This week, students get the opportunity to try out the recently obtained pump organ that is a part of the studio. Get ready to perfect your recital pieces and have some fun improvising on the organ!
This talented young lady has Whitney's style down perfectly, and she has a fantastic voice! Unsurprisingly, as someone without sight, she has an incredible ear and intonation. Her brain has overcompensated for her lack of vision with an incredible ear, which is essential in all music, but particularly for singers.

The Tragic Decline of Music Literacy (and Quality) Over the last 20 years, fewer people are learning how to read and compose music. What impact has that had on the music we listen to?

Thank you to all of our students and their families for making Spring Recital 2017 such a success! It was a wonderful day, and I've heard nothing but positive responses from those in attendance!
As was decided at the reception, there will be NO LESSONS this week, and the studio is CLOSED until next week. Please be ready to resume May lessons next week - Tuesday May 9-Friday May 12.
Lessons will continue through Wednesday, May 31. If you are a Thursday or Friday person and wish to have lessons that week, you will need to contact me about having lessons on that Monday, the 29th.
Thank you all! We'll be in touch about the options for the summer sessions in June, July, and August. Individual lessons and group classes will be available, depending on specific weeks in the summer months (I'm working around my vacation and out of town commitments). So, in June, July and August, there will not be consistent weekly lessons.
The first week of the Fall 2017 Semester will be Monday, September 4-Friday, September 8. At that time, all student file information will need to be updated, and new studio policy agreements will need to be signed.
Thank you for being part of Hulstine Studio for Musical Arts!
It's because of you that the studio can do the work we do together. See you next week!

Thank you to Bea Johnson-Black, a studio grandma, and Heidi Luebbert, a studio mom, for this awesome vintage pic of a singing cherub!
There is a studio policy that I want to make sure the public understands, which my students and the parents of my younger students are already aware of.
As stated in the 2016-2017 studio policies handbook, Hulstine Music & Performance Studio does not discriminate against any student or family on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, socio-economic status, political affiliation, or handi-capable status. All are welcome in this music studio, and every student is accomodated for their individual needs.
Conversely, this small business owner reserves the right to not include those in his studio who discriminate specifically against members of the LGBTQIA community (so I am clear, that means Le***an, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual/Allies),those opposed to Women's Rights (whether this is for a secular or religious reason), or for anything l have a strong moral objection with contributing to or profiting from. This is a policy I have held from the founding of my studio, and one that will not change.
If anyone has a questions about this, whether they are a current student or family member, or a member of the public, I am open to answering any questions you may have.
I wish to thank current members of my studio-students of all ages and their families-who have been supportive of this policy and the fact that I am openly gay and a Music Education professional, and given me a great amount of business, and their trust. They are the lifeblood of this studio, and I also consider them my friends.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. It's time to focus on Music and making our world a better place!
