For nearly three years, conversations have been taking place about the future of the Kansas Music Educators Association and how our visual identity can better reflect our mission, our members, and our impact. The KMEA Board approved a new logo branding guide on June 6, 2026 at the June Board Meeting. Today, we are excited to finally share the result of that journey.
Introducing the new KMEA logo!!
Designed by Christa Rieger of Atchison, Kansas, this new brand represents both who we are and where we are headed. While our commitment to music education remains unchanged, this refreshed identity symbolizes growth, innovation, and a renewed vision for the future.
As we continue advocating for music in our schools, we do so on behalf of every music educator, student musician, family member, and music advocate across Kansas. We believe this new logo is a meaningful step forward as we strengthen our voice and continue championing the life-changing power of music education.
Thank you to everyone who contributed ideas, feedback, and support throughout this process. We are proud of where KMEA has been, excited for where we are going, and honored to share this next chapter with our KMEA community.

🎶 New interview now live! 🎶
A fresh KS Advo Angle feature is here—check out our latest conversation with Scott Freeby!
Scott Freeby, a retired band director from Manhattan, Kansas, shares a wealth of insight from his distinguished career as a composer, director, teacher, and sought-after clinician. In this interview, Scott reflects on the many ways he championed music education—through intentional advocacy, meaningful relationships, and even “dressing the part” to elevate the performance experience.
From building strong connections with students and their families to creating lasting impact beyond the classroom, Scott reminds us that advocacy lives in the daily work we do.
Scott also highlights his powerful new composition, “We Declare Independence,” written in celebration of America 250 as part of the Kansas 250 initiative in partnership with the Kansas Music Educators Association.
