KWU provides an educational program characterized by excellence, within a caring community, rooted in the liberal arts tradition, that includes 16 academic departments and a wide range of majors that includes a growing MBA program. The university also boasts a growing campus ministry effort. More than 98% of graduates (over the past five years) are in jobs or graduate school within six months of graduation, a figure that is among the top two such rates in the state of Kansas. KWU’s music programs and debate teams have been especially successful, with debate winning more than 65 national championships and graduates of the music program securing positions all over the U.S., while multiple athletic teams have advanced to national tournaments. Join us for Science Cafe during Homecoming 2026 as Dr. Erika Kohler, planetary scientist at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and Deputy Project Scientist for the DAVINCI mission to Venus, explores how scientists use extreme laboratory environments to prepare for planetary exploration. Drawing from her leadership of the Hot Environments Lab, Dr. Kohler will share how research into high-temperature conditions is helping unlock the mysteries of Venus and other worlds.

The event takes place Friday at 6 p.m. at Red Fern Booksellers in downtown Salina. Students, educators, science enthusiasts and community members are invited to hear firsthand how NASA research is advancing our understanding of the universe and expanding the frontiers of discovery beyond Earth.

Due to wet conditions in the downtown area, the pep rally scheduled for Thursday evening has been canceled. We encourage the KWU community to visit our friends at Jose Pepper's, who were scheduled to welcome us this evening.
