We are so proud of Deputy Alycia Buchanan '25 for her timely and life-saving reaction to this medical crisis!
This morning I had the opportunity to present Deputy Alycia Buchanan with a Commendation for her recent lifesaving actions.
On June 9th, 2026, Deputy Alycia Buchanan responded to a medical call of “heart problems” in rural Saline County.
Upon Deputy Buchanan’s arrival, she was led to the patient who was not breathing. Deputy Buchanan immediately connected the patient to her issued Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and she administered two rounds of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) until she was relieved by Medics.
Due to Deputy Buchanan’s calm and decisive lifesaving techniques, Salina EMS transported the patient to Salina Regional Hospital for treatment.
The Saline County Sheriff Office would like to acknowledge Deputy Buchanan for her lifesaving actions and professionalism on June 9th, 2026.
Congratulations Deputy Buchanan.
Great work,
Sheriff Soldan

KWU did not miss out on last night's severe weather! Campus is safe and being actively cleaned up.
Coyote Enrollment Day will go forward tomorrow as expected, but we want to remind anyone traveling to Salina or coming onto campus to be mindful of fallen limbs and other debris, as fully cleaning up will likely take several days. We're extremely grateful for the hard work of our Plant Operations team as we navigate the aftermath of last night's storm.
