I know many of you may have seen this article circulating on Facebook. Just a reminder, continuing safe sleep practices is still the recommendation. As noted below, this research is definitely a step in the right direction.

Dear KIDS Network Community:
A new article published by the Lancet is gaining traction in the SIDS and Safe Sleep Community. This research may lead to greater ability to screen risk of SIDS, but that is only a small portion of sleep-related deaths. The recent research falls in line with what Dr. Hannah Kinney discovered and explains as the Triple Risk Theory. Dr. Kinney reports, SIDS is likely a combination of a vulnerable infant (enzyme level), outside stressor (sleep space, smoke, heat, etc.) and critical developmental period (age of baby). All infant caregivers need to understand safe sleep practices are still paramount in reducing SIDS and other sleep-related causes of death as addressed by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.
Thus, we still need to follow safe sleep practices (Alone, Back, Clutter-free Crib) to reduce infant deaths from SIDS, suffocation, overlay, and strangulation in bed. This research is a step in the right direction. A screening tool coupled with safe sleep practices will be impactful to those we serve.
Please share with your community via email and social media.
Thank you,
Christy

Peer support is a process where those with a similar lived experience, such as perinatal mental health, substance use recovery, physical/mental health disabilities, etc., can work together in supporting one another. Peer support is mutual support. Support is provided relationally, based on the experiences that those involved share. Peer support does not focus on providing answers; it provides support along the journey. It serves to reassure a person that their experience is valid, and they are not alone. Peer support is connection with the purpose of understanding and empathizing from a place of shared experience.
The formation of this group is intended to be a peer social support resource to provide a non-judgmental safe space for perinatal women, new mothers, mothers of children with disabilities, mothers with disabilities, and female caretakers/guardians, where they can come together to share their lived experiences/challenges throughout motherhood as you receive peer support that focuses on needs, inclusion, and advocacy! https://www.facebook.com/groups/465758875092455

preventable. Learn more at: www.cdc.gov/pregnancy/infections.html
After much consideration and conversation with our public health team, we have made the decision to postpone in-person classes for the month of January. Zoom classes are still available. It's never easy to make decisions that do not align with our plans but nonetheless, we have to make them for the best interest of everyone involved. Due to our current county Covid numbers we feel this was the right decision given the circumstances. Those of you who have signed up for the in-person classes next week will be receiving a text from Tricia with further information. We will evaluate the possibility of in-person classes on a month-by-month basis. Thank you for your understanding, we miss our parents and truly look forward to seeing/meeting you all in person when we can.
