I’m feeling humbled and grateful to share this.
The Tillamook County Pioneer Museum received an Oregon Heritage Grant to support an assessment of their Indigenous collection—and I’ve been selected as the consultant for this project.
On so many levels, this feels like a homecoming. I first researched this collection while I was in graduate school, and I visited this museum as a child. To return now—years later—feels like coming back to an Elder family member’s home after being away for a long time. There’s a familiarity, a tenderness, and a sense of being welcomed back.
This work is about care, accountability, and relationship—supporting culturally appropriate stewardship and helping move this collection forward in a good way.
With gratitude to Tillamook County Pioneer Museum, the Oregon Heritage Commission/Oregon Parks & Recreation Department, and Tribal partners for supporting this important work. I’m honored to step into it with integrity and respect.
