Twenty-five years later, we remember.

On September 11, 2001, our nation experienced an unimaginable loss—one that forever changed our country and left a profound mark on the fire service.

Today, we remember the 343 firefighters who gave their lives in service to others, the 2,977 people who were lost, and the survivors and first responders who continue to live with the lasting effects of 9/11-related illnesses.

Their courage, sacrifice, and dedication to service continue to inspire us. We honor their legacy by standing together as a fire service family, serving our communities with purpose, and carrying forward the commitment to help others when they need us most.

25 years later, we remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Today we honor the dedication, sacrifice, and legacy of our wildland firefighters.

Today, we recognize National Wildland Firefighter Day, and this week we honor Wildland Firefighter Week of Remembrance, a time to thank those who serve and remember those we've lost.

We stand with our wildland partners: federal, state, tribal, and local, who work alongside the structural fire service to protect lives, property, and natural resources across Oregon.

To all wildland firefighters and support crews: thank you for your unwavering dedication, sacrifice, and courage. To those who made the ultimate sacrifice, we remember you always.

This course provides fire investigators with essential knowledge and practical strategies to reduce the health and safety risks associated with fire scene investigations. Participants will examine common hazards—including structural instability, hazardous materials, toxins, environmental exposures, and physical stress—and learn how to apply evidence‑based safety practices throughout the investigation process. Emphasis is placed on risk assessment, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), contamination control, scene management, and long‑term health considerations such as cancer prevention and behavioral wellness. Through scenario-based discussions and real-world case examples, investigators will learn to protect themselves and their teams while conducting thorough and professional fire investigations.
