This month, we’re celebrating Dr. Ray Keefauver as our September Employee of the Month! We asked Dr. Keefauver to share a few words about what this recognition means to him, and his response is a beautiful reminder of the power of community, collaboration, and asking for support when we need it.

“‘What is the bravest thing you've ever said?’ asked the boy.
‘Help,’ said the horse.”
— Charlie Mackesy, The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse

“I am truly humbled and honored to be nominated for Tiger of the Month. This quote resonates with me because it reminds us that no one succeeds alone.
It recognizes our shared humanity and reminds us that we are often stronger when we allow others to support us. Throughout my years at Salem University, I have had the privilege of serving in a variety of roles, learning from exceptional colleagues, and receiving support, expertise, and encouragement from those around me.
This recognition reflects far more than any individual accomplishment. It reflects the collaboration, trust, and shared commitment among the faculty, staff, and leadership team who work tirelessly each day to support our students and advance the university's mission.
I am grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute with such dedicated professionals.”

Congratulations, Dr. Keefauver! Thank you for all you do for Salem University and for the students, faculty, and staff who make up our Salem family. 🐯

We are happy to announce our Tiger of the Month, Dr. Roderick Johnson! 🥳

Roderick shared these words…
“I joined Salem University in April 2026 as the Director of Financial Aid, bringing with me a passion for student success, service, and building meaningful relationships. I believe financial aid is about much more than numbers, regulations, and processes it is about people. Every student has a unique story, and my goal is to meet students where they are, listen to their needs, help remove barriers, and make sure they have the support and resources necessary to continue pursuing their educational goals.

I am here at Salem because I believe in the power of education to transform lives. I am committed to creating a Financial Aid experience where students feel heard, valued, respected, and supported. Whether I am working directly with a student, supporting my Financial Aid team, or collaborating with campus stakeholders, I strive to lead with integrity, compassion, accountability, and a spirit of service.

One of the things I value most about Salem University is the opportunity to build relationships across the institution. I believe that student success is a shared responsibility, and strong collaboration among faculty, staff, leadership, and support services is essential to helping our students succeed.

Being named Tiger of the Month is a tremendous honor and a reflection of what I hope to contribute to the Salem community. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve Salem University and look forward to continuing to make a difference one student, one relationship, ONE TIGER AT A TIME.”

Thank you, Rodrick, for your unwavering dedication to our students and the care you bring to everything you do! Help us congratulate Rodrick in the comments below! 🎉
