Burton Center for Arts & Technology "One Burton = Infinite Possiblities" Burton also has four Centers: Engineering, Mass Communications, Performing Arts, and Visual Arts & Museum Studies.

Roanoke County’s Burton Center for Arts & Technology offers in-depth studies not available in other high school classes: hands-on experience, integrated curriculum, enriching experiences, travel opportunities, specialized training, and internships. Burton Center has instruction in: Auto Service Technology, Building Trades, Computer Information Technology, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, Culinary A

rts, Digital Design, Early Childhood Education, Floral Design, Game and Web Design, Landscaping, Masonry, Mechatronics, and Welding. In May 2012, Burton Center received approval for establishment as a Governor’s STEM Academy. The Academy is a program with expanded options for studies in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. STEM literacy allows students to prepare for the high-demand, high-skill, and high-wage careers in Virginia. Burton Center’s students are involved in a variety of organizations- FBLA, FCCLA, Hot Rodders of Tomorrow, and SkillsUSA. These organizations have various conferences and competitions throughout the year allowing students to travel, associate with other students, and have experiences that they may not have otherwise been able to enjoy. Burton Center for Arts & Technology is also responsible for Adult Education in Roanoke County. The classes are open to citizens of Roanoke County as well as the surrounding areas. GED and ESL classes are offered. Other classes offered include: SAT Prep classes, Welding classes, and Building Maintenance classes.

Over the past few days, we've held student assemblies to review expectations for the year, discuss the transition to the Roanoke County Career and Technology Center, and give students an opportunity to ask questions about what lies ahead.

Each presentation given to staff, parents, and students ended with: "This may be our most challenging year ever. Why can't it also be our best one yet?"

With the assemblies now complete, all BCAT / RCCTC stakeholders have now been challenged to be the best versions of ourselves as we move onward, upward, and forward this school year.

The behavior was excellent, the information important, and the questions were thoughtful. We're ready to make this final semester at BCAT one to remember!

We're excited to have students back soon! We gathered for our annual staff photo this morning wearing our "Moving: Onward. Upward. Forward." shirts.

This year will bring plenty of change, challenges, and memories as we end one era and begin another. Fortunately, we have the right people to make the move together.

Current BCAT (and future RCCTC) staff were able to get a peek at all the progress that was done at the Roanoke County Career and Technology Center over the summer. It is incredible!

Staff members were also given t-shirts with this year's theme: "Moving: Onward. Upward. Forward."

We will honor and celebrate the end of one era, while also looking ahead to the start of an exciting new one.

BCAT FCCLA members rocked their red blazers in Washington, DC last week for the 2026 National Leadership Conference. They participated in workshops, leadership training, general sessions, and competitive events. Norah Buck earned a gold medal and 5th place overall in the Teach or Train STAR Event, and Macie Preston earned a bronze medal in the Early Childhood Education event. In their free time, members got to explore the sights of DC and take in some fun activities, including an escape room at the National Harbor (they got out!), a Washington Nationals baseball game, ice cream and window shopping in Old Town Alexandria, a rainy trolley tour, and the deeply impactful Holocaust Memorial Museum. This year’s FCCLA theme was “Get ConneCTEed,” and our members and adviser enjoyed the week connecting with each other and other chapters across the country.
