Our 14u softball team is looking for 5 more girls to round out our roster!

The beam will be headed by Coach Sam Silver! Sam had a spectacular career as a player for the Bushnell Beacons on and off the field. As a pitcher, she finished her career ranked in the top-ten all-time in nine different categories and ranks fifth all-time for wins in program history.

In 2023, Silver was named the winner of the NAIA’s Dr. Leroy Walker Champion of Character Award, one of the organization’s highest annual honors. She was Bushnell’s first recipient of any NAIA major award.

Silver has been coaching and giving private lessons for many years and most recently served as an assistant coach at Springfield High School. She has also been a head coach for the Diamonds Fastpitch 16u and 14u teams, as well as our 14u this fall!

Much of Coach Silver’s legacy lies in the impact she has had in the development of student-athlete mental health initiatives. This included the creation of Bushnell’s student-athlete wellness program, providing a designated counselor to each athletic team, removing barriers to care and acting as a liason between athletics and the counseling department.

During her collegiate career she was also named the winner of the Gardepiey-Peloquin Outstanding Speaker Award, and graduated with a 3.94 GPA in Communications. She went on to earn her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and is pursuing her Associate License for counseling. She continues to serve as the Student-Athlete Mental Health Coordinator for Beacon Athletics.

We are so excited for this upcoming season and would love to find 5 more girls to join Coach Silver this season! If interested, call, text or email us!

His favorite athlete is Bryce Boerrcher because he is a dual athlete at Oregon! A fun fact about Davis, is that he likes to always be smiling! If he could give his younger self some advice he would say “Never give up, keeping work hard.“

Jaxson has been playing for 9 years! When he isn’t playing baseball, he can be found playing football or basketball, school, or helping out his grandpa! Jaxson’s favorite athlete is Mike trout because he was his grandmas favorite player! A fun fact about Jaxson is that he likes sushi, and if he could give his younger self some advice he would say “never give up”

Last but not least we have Eli! Eli has been playing 9 years! When he is not playing baseball he can be found wrestling, playing tennis, basketball, swimming, in band (he loves to play the Trumpet), or volunteering at a local church! His favorite athlete is Jackie Robinson, because he broke baseball’s color barrier and proved that courage can change history. He showed incredible strength by staying focused and succeeding even when faced with hate and discrimination. His legacy inspires him to stand up for what’s right and never give up on my goals even when he feels like he is standing alone. A fun fact about Eli is that he has traveled to Guatemala, Mexico, and 5 different states! If he could give his younger self one piece of advice, he would say “Have fun and play ball!”

Thank you to all these wonderful for letting us take a moment and highlight them! We love being able to do this and are so happy to be able to also get to know the players for who they are a little more as well! ⚾️
