Missed a spot >
Of course we're going to watch the Virginia-based documentary, "We The W**e People" that just released (streaming)... it looks fascinating. Hopefully, it features more examples from our region here than what's shown in the descriptions and trailer. It's heavily focused on the Shenandoah region (somewhat understandable), but the blurbs mention one in Roanoke (that's not currently open to the public or tastings). We did catch a two-second clip of Beliveau Farm W**ery (shown here) though! If judging by the music track in the trailer (somber and melancholy) and statements like, "It's a unnatural act probably to grow grapes here" and "experts" saying people don't even think of Virginia as w**e-producing, the film might show our challenges over our successes---but we'll see.
According to multiple sources, Virginia ranks SIXTH in the US, with over 300 w**eries; 5th in the nation for grape production; and, believe it or not, the 2nd largest w**e-producing REGION state on the East Coast. Total w**e production ranks around 10th, according to most sources. Lastly, all rankings of US w**e are blown away and skewed by California, which unquestionably dominates the market (over 80% of all w**e).
