Salem State Vikings travel the globe — and then return home, smarter and stronger for the experience.
My 10 day business trip to China ended with a long but uneventful journey from Shanghai (Pudong) to Tokyo (Haneda) and then, after a 75 minute bus ride, from Tokyo (Narita) to Boston (Logan). It would have been nice to stop for a visit in Japan, as I have enjoyed my previous two stays and my past studies of Japanese language and culture. The way that social respect, responsibility, and genuine care are embedded into the Japanese way of life fascinates me. We have much to learn from our Japanese counterparts…

Vikings travel the globe!
For my final night here in Shanghai, I’ve opted from room service given that I need to head out early tomorrow morning for home. This summer’s visit to China on behalf of at Salem State University has been a great success: we’ve strengthened important global partnerships, and are preparing to welcome over 30 new Chinese 1-2-1 Dual Degree Program students to our campus in just a couple of months.
A special shout out goes to my two colleagues from the Center for International Education at Salem State, Xia and Roger. Not only are they great traveling companions, but they are super ambassadors for our university. And just say that Xia is the backbone around which our Chinese partnerships is wrapped would be an understatement! Salem State University Alumni Association and Foundation Study Abroad At Salem State

Introducing the Class of 2029 Salem State University / Nanjing Normal University dual-degree English major cohort!
These students, who have completed their first year of studies here in China, will be traveling to the United States this fall to begin a two year stay at SSU. In the fall of 2028, they will finish the final year of their studies back in China and in June 2029 will have earned a diploma from both universities. Xia, Roger and I spent part of the day telling the students about what lies ahead and answering some questions. I can’t wait to see them in Salem in a few months.
