Congratulations to April's School Psych of the month, Cuong Hoang!!!

1. In your professional practice, what experiences did you find most rewarding or interesting?

Currently in my professional practice, the most rewarding is my work with the Oregon Traumatic Brian Injury (TBI) Committee. I find it fascinating to learn the intricacies of these conditions and rewarding to help craft procedures and processes for TBI. I am excited that Oregon is on the cutting edge of research and legislation to help foster both understanding and educational support for students with TBI. I hope to continue my participation in the committee.

2. What educational levels (pre-k, elementary, secondary) are your preference to work in and why?

I have been in most educational levels over my years as a school psychologist. If I were to have to choose, then I would want to work with middle school students. Adolescents are at the cusp of self identity and once you establish trust with them that impact will last a lifetime. Even though at times it feels frustrating, they are the most willing to listen and be open to dramatic changes.

Congratulations to our March School Psychologist of the Month, Arcelia Pena-Baltazar, Ed.S!!

In your professional practice, what experiences did you find most rewarding or interesting?
There are many parts of my role as a school psychologist that I find deeply fulfilling. One of the most significant is witnessing students grow and thrive when the right supports are thoughtfully put into place. Having worked with students across both primary and secondary levels, I value not only building trusting relationships but also ensuring the student’s voice is present and respected at the table.

I am especially grateful for the opportunity to work alongside families as they navigate what can often feel like an overwhelming and confusing special education system. Supporting families in understanding their child’s needs, building confidence in their advocacy, and strengthening trust in the educational process is one of the most impactful parts of my work.
