It's that time of the year again, we are running our annual Thank A Teacher campaign for our amazing Salem Educators!

Fill out the quick thank you form, and the Salem Education Foundation will deliver your custom note to your teacher during Teacher Appreciation Week this May!

REMINDER: Nominate for the Margaret Voss Howard Teacher of the Year Award

Nominations are currently being accepted for the Margaret Voss Howard Teacher Recognition Award, a fund of the Essex County Community Foundation.

The yearly award honors the contributions of one teacher from Salem Public Schools and one from the Marblehead school district, with each receiving $1,000. Teachers, other school employees, parents, students and citizens may nominate a teacher by submitting a detailed letter explaining why the teacher should be honored and sending it to: [email protected].

Deadline: April 10, 2026

Nominators should include the teacher’s name, school, and assignment, along with their own contact information (name, email, phone, relationship to teacher) or a nomination form. Honorees are selected by a committee of local educators.

Did you know? Bates Elementary School has an Artist in Residence!

This year, Bates used their motto BELIEVE, BE YOU, BELONG...AT BATES to promote self-reflection, development, and community building through collaboration with a local artist in residence. The Salem Education Foundation was thrilled to help fund this project!

Social-emotional learning and expression through the arts are crucial components of childhood development.

This past year, the Salem Education Foundation funded a grant for a Unified Game Day at Bertram Field to help empower every student to participate in games.

This grant is a small part of what helped Salem Public Schools to be named a Unified Champion School District by Special Olympics Massachusetts this past week!

GRANT FAQS:

Q: What is this?
A: The Salem Education Foundation provides funding for projects that further students’ educational experiences; projects that go beyond the scope of those funded by the Salem School Department. SEF has an interest in funding projects that help students develop their talents, become lifelong learners and effective community members, and help to create an environment for students to pursue and achieve excellence. Grants are for up to $1,000 for an Enrichment project or $3,000 for a Collaborative project, which involves multiple schools.

Q: Who can apply?
A: Eligible applicants are Salem Public School teachers and staff. Volunteers or parents may apply for projects taking place in schools IF submitted by a staff member.
