Our Story

St. Vincent de Paul Parish, founded in February, 1925, opened its school in September of the same year. Two Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary were the first faculty. Right Reverend Monsignor A. Hildebrand, Administrator of the Archdiocese, officiated at the dedication and blessing of the elementary school that boasted an enrollment of 84 students.These religious and their predecessors commuted from Sacred Heart Academy in Salem until 1949 when they moved into a temporary dwelling. This year 300 pupils were registered.The ‘new’ section of the school (four new classrooms and a gymnasium) was added in 1948. The church that had been located in the basement of the school then moved to the gym.In 1953 the faculty numbered ten religious ( living in a new home across the street) and two lay women who greeted 450 children in grades first through eighth. As Archbishop Edward D. Howard blessed the new convent at its dedication, he remarked, “We could ask for no better proof of the love our people have for Catholic education ...” 8000 volunteer hours and $90,000 built and furnished the convent.The present church was dedicated in 1960 and the students had a gym.The enrollment swelled the building in 1962 with 800 students. In the fall of 1974 grades seven and eight moved to a common campus with similar grade levels from the other Salem Catholic schools.Over the years, Kindergarten, Preschool and Extended Child Care have been added to round out the programs and services of the school. St. Vincent de Paul School treasures the heritage and traditions that have brought us to the present years.

La parroquia de San Vicente de Paúl, fue fundada en febrero de 1925, abrió su escuela en septiembre del mismo año. Dos Hermanas de los Santos Nombres de Jesús y María fueron las primeras profesoras. El Reverendísimo Monseñor A. Hildebrand, Administrador de la Arquidiócesis, oficio en la inauguración y bendijo a la escuela que se jactaba de una matrícula de 84 estudiantes. Estas religiosas y sus predecesores viajaban desde la Academia del Sagrado Corazón en Salem hasta 1949, cuando se mudaron a una vivienda temporal. Ese año, 300 alumnos se registraron en la escuela. Cuatro nuevas aulas y un gimnasio fueron anexados en 1948. La iglesia que se había situado en el sótano de la escuela se trasladó al gimnasio. En 1953 la facultad contaba con diez religiosos (viviendo en una nueva casa al frente) y dos mujeres laicas que atendían a 450 niños en los grados de primero a octavo. Cuando el Arzobispo Edward D. Howard bendijo el nuevo convento en su dedicación, comentó, "No podríamos pedir mejor prueba del amor que nuestro pueblo tiene para la educación católica..."8000 horas de trabajo voluntario y $90,000 para construir y decorar el convento. La iglesia actual fue construida en 1960 y los estudiantes obtuvieron un gimnasio. En 1962 la matrícula de estudiantes creció a 800 alumnos. En el otoño de 1974 los grados siete y ocho se trasladaron a otras escuelas Católicas de Salem. Al pasar de los años se adiciono el Kínder, preescolar y cuidado infantil a los programas y servicios de la escuela. La escuela de San Vicente de Paul conserva el patrimonio y las tradiciones que nos han traído hasta el presente año.
