The Salem Public Library is hosting a Book-O-Lantern Competition! Decorate a pumpkin to represent a story you enjoy or to look like your favorite book character. See the library’s Pinterest page for examples:

Anyone can participate, all you need is your creativity and a pumpkin (artificial pumpkins are allowed as well)! No library card is required.

Use paint, markers, glue, fabric, etc., but no carving please! Bring your creation to the library between October 3rd and 14th.

Winners will be chosen from 3 categories:
5-11 years old
12-18 years old
19 years old & up

Voting will occur from October 16th through the 24th. Votes may be placed at the display at the library or by "liking" the pumpkin's photo on the library's page. The winning pumpkin in each age group will be determined by the combined total of votes made in the library and "likes" on Facebook.
Prizes of candy or a book will be awarded (winner's choice).

Pumpkins will need to be picked up between October 25th and 28th. If your pumpkin begins to decay before then, you will be asked to pick it up or library staff may dispose of it.

Remember to be creative! You can choose any book character you want! Have fun and good luck!
