Hammond Elementary School

We are starting a new tradition this year- Hammond School Color Day!
This will be every Friday (or last school day of the week) all year long.

Students can choose to wear any Hammond shirt from previous years, or any purple or gold shirt, pants, accessories, etc. that is school appropriate starting tomorrow. This spirit day is optional, but highly encourage for all students to participate in.

We are also selling shirts, hoodies, and zip up sweaters!
Parents, students, and staff will be able to purchase these items through our online store or at the office. We are accepting debit/credit cards. Below is the link to the site where you can purchase items. Items are available in purple or black options with our school logo. When ordering, please specify the size (Adult S-XXL, Youth S-L).

We do not have the items in stock yet, but once we receive them, we will send out a message and you can pick up the item(s) or we can send it home with your child. They will not be delivered to your home.

A huge shout out to The Fruit Box! They catered twice for our staff this year. Each time we received amazing customer service and they exceeded our expectations with the snacks! If you ever crave a delicious, refreshing snack this summer, we definitely recommend visiting The Fruit Box on the corner of Lancaster and Sunnyview!

Our annual Jog A Thon will be on Friday, May 23rd!

Schedule
All students will be participating during their classes scheduled time. Kinder through second grade are scheduled in the afternoon; third through fifth grade are scheduled in the morning. A more detailed schedule will go out this week via ParentSquare.

Items
Students should wear their provided Jog A Thon shirts, appropriate bottoms, and running shoes. Rain or shine, we will be jogging! Students are also encouraged to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. Other drinks are prohibited.

Fundraising
We will be collecting funds until June 6th online with a card via our donation site (see link below), in person, or sent in with the student; envelopes will be sent home. Cards are preferred, but cash and checks will be accepted. If you choose to write a check, please make it payable to Hammond Elementary School and include your child's name and "Jog A Thon" in the memo. Remember to include your child's name on all forms of payment so they can get the credit. Students will be earning prizes by raising money and running laps!

Volunteers are needed! If you'd like to help out, please sign up for a time on ParentSquare. All volunteers must have a cleared background check.

Spectators
Spectators are welcomed! Please be sure check in at the sign in table and stay on behind the flags.

Please note- we will not be allowing student check out to watch their sibling(s) jog. This is to protect learning time in the classroom. We appreciate your understanding.

Hammond Is Getting a New Playground! Update on Hammond's playground.

If you have a child who will be 5 on or before September 10, 2025 and live in our boundaries, they are eligible to be enrolled into Hammond kindergarten next school year! Registration is open via ParentVue; log in or create an account if you are not currently a Salem-Keizer Public Schools parent and start the 2025-2026 registration. We will be having our kinder orientation next month, so make sure your child is enrolled with us in order to attend the orientation!

Tonight we had a registration night for kindergarteners starting in the 2025-2026 school year which was great! We were happy to see everyone who attended!

We decided to do a second round of registration night for incoming kindergarteners tomorrow, Thursday, March 13th from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

At the registration night, you'll be able to register your child if you have not yet done so, sign your child up for Dual Language, Jumpstart Kindergarten, sign up for PTC, submit a background check for volunteering, and more.

If you came tonight but still need to verify documents, you are welcome to come tomorrow!

Next week students only come Monday & Tuesday. They will have the rest of the week off. Check ParentSquare for details!

The 2025-2026 school year registration is almost open! Starting March 1st, you can log into your ParentVue account to register your child if they will be 5 years old on or before September 10, 2025. Registration is online only via ParentVue; we are not accepting paper registrations.

We will have a Kindergarten Registration Night on Wednesday, March 12th!
Stop by the Hammond gym any time between 4:30 and 6:30 pm on 3/12/25. This is not required, but encouraged! *This registration night is for incoming kindergarten students only. You do not need to attend if you do not have an incoming kindergarten student for the 2025-2026 school year.

At this registration night, you will be able to:
Register your child(ren) for the new school year
Verify documents
Learn about and sign up for our Dual Language program
Learn about and sign up for Jumpstart Kindergarten
Sign up for volunteer opportunities and submit a background check
Meet Hammond’s office staff (we are all bilingual!)
Take a fun photo of your child!

Items to bring to registration night:
A copy of your child's birth certificate or passport
Proof of address such as a utility bill, lease agreement, etc.
Up to date immunization records
Any legal documents such as custody agreements, legal name change, etc.
If applicable, a copy of your child's IEP (Individual Education Plan), or serious health condition documents

If you have a neighbor whose child is eligible to start kinder next year, please let them know about this registration night!
