Our culture isn’t something we celebrate just today, it’s something we carry into our classrooms every single day! 🤎 And it takes all of us coming together, sharing what we know, and passing down our teachings to keep our culture strong.
When you look at these pictures, you see more than children playing drums and singing yo’yo:s. You see generations of teachings being carried forward. You see the love, strength, and determination of those who came before us, who fought to keep our language, songs, and traditions alive so our children could experience them today.
Today, our children get to sing our songs, play our drums, and learn our ways proudly in their own classrooms. That is something worth celebrating every day!
Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day! 🤎
And a long overdue Nya:wëh to Darelyn Spruce for generously donating a copy of her book, I’m a Little Smoke Dancer, to each of our classrooms, and to Adrian John for collaborating with us and making these beautifully handcrafted water drums and rattles!
These are more than classroom materials… they are being used, enjoyed, and appreciated by our children, and that is exactly what we hoped for!
