Many thanks to Colleen Schrappen for her heartwarming piece about St. Joseph School-Zell.

We are deeply appreciative to her and for everyone who came on this journey with us. But though we did not succeed we keep our hope in the Risen Christ

"It is the spirit that gives life, while the flesh is of no avail," our Savior said. "The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life."

It is Christ who accomplished everything! We can do nothing without Him. And any of our accomplishments are, in the end, meaningless without Christ and His death, resurrection and ascension to the Father, which gives us all everlasting life.

It is right to be disappointed, to be sad over what we are losing here in Zell. But it is Easter Week. Death has been destroyed. We must be joyful and glad. We have not lost the True Faith.

For Christ is risen from the dead. By death, He trampled death. And to those in the tombs he granted life. And to us He granted life eternal. Let us bow before His Resurrection!

They wanted to keep the 27-student St. Joseph School from closing. And they had a plan. “We just lost steam along the way.”

***IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE ST. JOSEPH SCHOOL - ZELL BOARD***

Dear parents, volunteers and supporters of St. Joseph School - Zell 2025-2026:

The board of directors regretfully announces that we will not be opening our doors in the fall. We informed enrolled families several days ago of this decision and confirmed it to the pastoral council of St. Joseph Church - Zell this evening.

We want to take a moment to thank all of those who showed up at our events this spring, who donated to our cause and, especially, those who enrolled their children for next year. We are heartbroken that we will be unable to continue the tradition of Catholic education in Zell next year.

Our board will begin the process of unwinding in the coming weeks, which will begin with returning donations sent to us via check and digitally. Those efforts will start in earnest after Easter as we want to keep our focus on the cross during Holy Week and on the Resurrection during the Octave. After all, it is Christ who is our Hope! And it was in Him that we put our trust with this effort and in whom our trust remains even after falling short.

May the Lord be with you all and may our patron, St. Joseph, continue to intercede for all of us.

April is the month that Holy Mother Church dedicates to Holy Spirit!

Thanks to the support of so many people in the community, we accomplished a lot since beginning this effort in late January (was it only a couple months ago?!) and there is still much to pray about and for us to listen to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Please continue to keep us in your prayers, especially as our board convenes again at our usual Thursday meeting as we take stock of where we are and what should come next!
