Deni Elliott, who taught at USF St. Petersburg for 20 years, is returning to campus on June 17 as part of the release of her first memoir, Catching Sight. 📖

The book traces Elliott’s experience with low vision and the partnership formed when she met Alberta, a yellow labrador guide dog who would become the center of her new book.

“For just regular people who see a guide dog team, I want them to have a sense of the interspecies communication that’s going on in front of them, of the relationship, of the collaboration. There’s just so much happening that people don’t know.”

Just over a week after a fire disrupted operations at the University of South Florida College of Marine Science, a team of USF oceanographers was back on the water doing what they do best.

With hurricane season approaching, USF researchers serviced ocean-monitoring buoys that collect critical data used to forecast storm surge, rapid intensification and other tropical weather hazards.

Despite major disruptions to their labs and workspaces, the team quickly adapted and continued the research that helps keep coastal communities informed and prepared.

What began as a student-led debate team at USF St. Pete is now helping thousands of students find their voice. 💚

USF St. Pete alumnus David Trigaux ('12) is the founder of the
Washington Urban Debate League - WUDL, which has expanded access to competitive debate for students in the greater Washington D.C. Area.

While at USF St. Pete, Trigaux helped create a student debate team from scratch, laying the groundwork for what would later become WUDL.

Today, the organization serves thousands of elementary, middle and high school students through 80 programs in D.C., Maryland and Virginia.
